The Davis Town Meeting House is a historic site located in the hamlet of Coram, New York, at the junction of Middle Country Road and Coram-Mount Sinai Road. The house, also known as the Lester H. Davis House, was built circa 1750 and is owned by the Town of Brookhaven.
The house has a rich history, having served as the seat of Brookhaven Town government from 1790 to 1885. During this time, the annual town meeting was held in April, where office holders were elected and issues of the day were voted on. The house was also used as a base for a horse artillery company for the State Militia and as a Temperance House in the mid 1800s.
The Davis Town Meeting House Society, Inc. was formed to restore and champion the conservancy efforts for the historic house. The society works directly with the Town of Brookhaven Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner and the Town Historian on the historical design of the house and fundraises for the renovation and restoration of the house.
The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated Brookhaven Town Landmark. The society is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) charitable corporation and accepts tax deductible donations to be used toward the ongoing efforts of renovation and restoration of the Lester H. Davis House.
The Davis Town Meeting House offers house tours, including a Culper Spy Ring tour. Upcoming events include house tours on October 11, November 8, and December 13. The society can be contacted through their website or by mail at Post Office Box 4, Coram, New York 11727.
