Before you head to the beach

Brookhaven beach conditions

Brookhaven reaches from Long Island Sound beaches on the North Shore to its Fire Island ocean beaches, including Smith Point County Park. Conditions differ by beach; check posted flags, lifeguard instructions and current county advisories before swimming.

Water-quality advisories

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services monitors bathing-beach water quality during the season and posts closures and advisories. Check the posting date; this site does not infer a current advisory status from old results.

Tides and regional waves

Patchogue (NOAA station 8514322) is the tide reference, and NOAA buoy 44025 (offshore buoy 30 nautical miles south of Islip) provides offshore wave and water-temperature observations; neither is a beach safety guarantee or a surf forecast for a particular beach.
